B.Tech in Biochemical engineering is majorly an interdisciplinary course combining biotechnology and chemical engineering to make high end finished products. Biochemical engineering studies the concepts of biotechnology and chemicals to merge them in order to convert the raw materials into finished products. It basically deals with the end to end products with the different meticulous process to make an output. The B.Tech Biochemical engineering is a 4 year under graduate course in the engineering range. The 4 years are further divided into 8 semesters having both practical and theoretical knowledge inducive classes which enhance the student’s skills more while they put those skills into action.
Biochemical engineering is a multifaceted approach which is keener on teaching students the various concepts like process engineering, material balance, thermodynamics, kinetics, reaction kinetics, bio-chemistry and more. As the name itself suggests Biochemical engineering combines two applications of Biotechnology and chemical engineering along with biology that deals with design, study, construction and invention of new process which involves the micro-organisms and molecular composition.
Biochemical engineering is a much-known stream to many as it involves a lot in latest technology for various products such as cosmetics, vaccines, proteins, enzymes, pharmaceuticals, drugs, perfumes etc. and then these raw materials are then being converted by very own biochemical engineering technical and scientific principles to achieve the finished product.
Biochemical engineering is mainly related to the scientific field and solve problems which are related to systems, materials and processes that interact directly or indirectly with humans, plants, animals, microorganisms, biological interface. Most biochemical engineers are used to working indoors such as laboratories, clinics, manufacturing plants, production plants, office building etc. Biochemical engineering is a quiet stimulating course and involves a major amount of physics, chemistry and mathematics for which the base should be sturdy.
The admission process for B.Tech biochemical engineering is very simple and serene like the other engineering branches. There are three ways in which a student can get admissions in B.Tech biochemical engineering. Either through merit basis and entrance exam or direct admissions through management quota. The colleges will be having a set cut off percentage for merit quota like 75% or 85%.
And any student who attains marks in this margin or more then they can get in through it. And the student needs to write an entrance exam and the board marks along with the entrance exam scores have been merged to give seats to students. Entrance exams will be conducted on the national level or state level and private level. Then if not entrance exams students can get admissions through the management quota with a management fee.
Diploma in Biochemical Engineering: Diploma in Biochemical engineering is for a tenure of 3 years and students can take up this course after completion of their 10th standard.
Undergraduate or degree program in B.Tech or B.E: B.Tech or B.E is a 4- year undergraduate degree course that students can take up after completion of 12th standard and is a very commonly opted course.
Post- graduation or M.E or M.Tech: M.E or M.Tech in Biochemical engineering is the course that is usually considered as higher education and those interested in doing PG can do this after completion of their under- graduation program or BTech Biochemical Engineering.

Biochemical engineering offers a wide range of career opportunities for students to choose from as it is an interdisciplinary course offering multiple jobs in various sectors. The scope for biochemical engineering is pretty much high and has opened career shots in processing industry as well which is also a major specialization. Now biochemical engineers can work in processing industries too which manufactures various products in batches. All the production units rely on biochemical engineers to get their work done.
As biochemical engineering is a vast field and it opens job opportunities in diverse fields. Biochemical engineers are majorly responsible in performing research and development on various biological products, designing and constructing chemical and pharmaceutical plant set ups, working and taking care of production departments in various sectors, they find the solution to various problems that which occur while the material and process with the substance which interacts with the live environment. And also, they collaborate with scientists to come up with innovative ideas to create an ideology of new techniques for its usage in different sectors. By applying the methodologies and skills they put their skills into action.
Biochemical engineers after the completion can work in many industries and they are limited to one particular industry. The places where biochemical engineers can work are hospitals, food industries, pharmaceuticals, labs, mining, engineering companies, oil and natural gas industry, water treatment plants and much more. Biochemical along with biotechnology and chemical engineering fields in India and abroad. Biochemical engineers are not just in production but also manufacture other fine chemicals like flavours, bio fuels, bio plastics, ethanol, colorants etc.
The scope of Biochemical engineering has become so elevated that many graduates and post graduates of bio chemical engineering are employed in environmental sectors for the treatment of various kinds of wastes and treatment to come up with prevention of wastes and litters. They can also work in food processing industries such as meat and wine preservatives, ware houses, wine making, leather processing and preservation. The salary trends for biochemical engineers in India and abroad are high and this depends on the student’s skills, performance, ability, creativity and the years of experience too counts. The field of biochemical engineering is vast and covers a domain of various other sectors and profiles.
