B.Tech Civil Engineering

Overview

B.Tech in Civil Engineering is one of the primaeval and vast field in the engineering streamlet. B.Tech in civil engineering is a 4 year under graduate program consisting of 8 semesters of both practical and theoretical assessments. Civil engineering is a diverse course which is tough, but comparatively to other branches is considered as easy and a smooth going course.

Civil Engineering is one such artistic field that contrasts with the planning, constructing, designing, fostering, sustaining and supervising of infrastructure. Infrastructure which we see around like highways, roads, bridges, tunnels, canals, schools, hospitals, buildings, airports, railway stations etc. Civil Engineering deals with the building, designing and construction of both physical and naturally built structures. Civil engineers those who have completed the program need to design, control, build, supervise, monitor, operate, and maintain infrastructural projects in both public and private sector.

In an era, which has technologically and skilfully evaluated the various infrastructural view, civil engineers do get a lot of recognition and career growth. Learning and designing structures can be a lot of glee but also a challenging task. To become a civil engineer, the candidate needs to be more skilful and persistent about your job. These skills help a student have pertinence in the job.

For those students who relatively dreamed of constructing a beautiful home or redesigning their roof top, building a tree house or craft a tunnel can now fulfil their dreams. Because civil engineering can be fulfilled by any student or candidate who passionately wants the profession. Practical skills are very important in this course as it requires the candidate to put their best foot forward to design their best. Without a civil engineer there is no building, as the structure of a building is how it was planned and designed.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. The candidate must have completed their 10+2 from a recognized board or university.
  2. The candidate must have completed their 12th with physics, chemistry and Math as compulsory subjects.
  3. The candidate must have scored a minimum of 45% in PCM for General categories.
  4. For reserved categories such as SC/ST, PWD there will be relaxation of 5%

Admission Process

For admissions in civil engineering a candidate must fulfil the eligibility criteria and then follow the further steps to get enrolment. There are two ways of getting admissions for B.Tech Civil engineering. One is through entrance exams and another is through direct admissions or merit based admission. Through entrance exams the students can get admissions in less fee and if they prefer direct admissions they wouldn’t have to go through any entrances as they just have to get the cut off percentage.

  1. KCET
  2. JEE MAINS
  3. JEE Advanced
  4. COMED K
  5. GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering)

There are certain colleges and universities which conduct their own entrance exams for students. So, any student who misses on the state level or national level entrances can write these university entrance exams and get admissions. Universities accept both state level entrance marks and their entrance marks alternatively. Some of the universities which conduct their own entrance exams are:

  1. PESSAT
  2. SRM JEE
  3. BITSAT
  4. DSUEE
  5. VITEEE

Course Structure

Diploma in civil engineeringis a 3 years course that students can choose right after completing their 10th standard for career in short run.

B.E/ B.Tech in civil engineering is a 4-year undergraduate degree after the completion of 12th standard that students choose for better skills.

ME/ M.Tech is a 2- year post graduate course that students can opt after completion of their graduation from B.E or B.Tech for success in a longer run as it has better career opportunities.

Career and Scope

Civil engineers have a high scope depending upon the firm they choose. Civil engineers have paved way for various job roles. They can work for both private and public sectors. Civil engineering requires its candidates to have good technical skills, management criticalities, evaluative thinking, good communication skills and creativity. It is very important to have these in order to be a civil engineer.

A civil engineer is responsible for all the A-Z requirements while construction of any infrastructure. Civil engineers not just build new compositions but also rebuild or improvise the existing infrastructure by giving it an even more appealing look. Civil engineers also help in saving and preserving the environment by building infrastructure with pollution control and various other measures by contributing towards nature.

Civil engineers can work in construction companies, defense, municipal corporations, military, state and central government besides this they can also work in educational sector. They can work in many industries such as oil and energy, transportation, environmental, power and electrical department where projects such as infrastructure and constructions evolve. As the economic rate growing on a rapid scale it has become evident that the need for qualified civil engineers has risen to signify a better and sustainable community.
